Simulated Shooting & Stalking

This is as close as you can get to the real thing!  Except it's a fraction of the cost, can be enjoyed at any time of year - and, of course, no animals or birds are hurt! 

Bill Black originally designed our simulated game shoots and simulated stalking to enable clients to hone their skills or "get their eye in" before heading for the moors or deer forests.  They have since been developed to become genuine sports in their own right and can be enjoyed by anyone at any time of year.

Simulated Game Shoots
Scotland has long been the definitive destination for fast and challenging game shooting. The combination of wide open countryside, wild moors and hills, temperate climate, good light, skilful game husbandry and easy access has been recognised by sportsmen the world over since Victorian times.

However, all-important conservation measures and specialisation by many estates make it almost impossible to enjoy the whole range of different types of shoot in the same day. Primarily intended for experienced shots, our Simulated Game Shoots have been carefully developed over many years to condense a varied and enjoyable range of shooting action into a single day - without any of the restrictions of closed seasons.

Simulated Game Shoots are usually held at our Activity Centre near Stirling.  They are available by the day and may be supplemented by our other Outdoor Activities. 

A great new alternative venue is now available near Perth.

The Shoot
The party will be split into teams of four with all four
guns shooting at each stand. A party of 12 can expect to shoot
3,000 to 4,000 clays. Experienced loaders are provided and
can be relied upon for helpful hints.

Simulated Game Stands
Five or six of the following stands are usually employed -

• Driven Grouse
  (Hilltop or moorland stands amongst the heather and the peat hags)
• Driven Pheasant
  (Very challenging stands - some at up to 100 feet high)
• Driven Partridge
  (Across rough terrain with the guns in butts or down in a sheltered hollow)
• Woodcock
  (Set in the bottom of a gully, shooting across a burn)
• Driven Snipe
  (Fast and low among trees)
• Settling Pigeon
  (High up in a woodland setting)
• Settling Duck
  (The guns are situated in a burn or river)

Simulated Deer Stalking
Absolutely Scotland's Simulated Red Deer Stalking is suitable for much smaller groups. Armed only with a camera (with telephoto lens) and a powerful telescope and accompanied by an experienced stalker, you take to the hills in search of Britain's largest land mammal, the Red Deer . . . Monarch of the Glen!

Using centuries-old traditions of stalking and mountaincraft, you stalk and manouvre your quarry for the finest photo-shot. You need to be fairly fit and able to withstand the rigours of the mountains but this can be one of the most rewarding days of a lifetime. And, of course, there will be opportunities to photograph other mountain wildlife - from the blue hare to the mighty eagle.  Red Deer Stalking is available at several Highland locations and will usually entail a full day in the mountains.

As an alternative, we also offer Simulated Roe Deer Stalking.  This usually takes place dawn or dusk. At some locations, the evening stalk may include sitting in a high vantage point - usually a tree or a tower - and waiting for the deer to appear.  Roe Deer Stalking is available at a number of locations throughout Scotland.
