CLOTHING

Your choice of clothing obviously depends on the time of year and type of terrain. However, the weather in Scotland, although relatively temperate, can alternate between extremes in a very short time – particularly in the mountains – and is often very localised. We recommend warm clothing and waterproofs at any time of year with strong boots. A number of visitors prefer to purchase woollens and tweeds after they arrive or to order online for delivery on arrival – Scottish wool and Harris Tweed are renowned worldwide. As hunting in Scotland is well supervised, bright or reflective clothing is unnecessary and indeed should normally be avoided.

GAME SHOOTING

If you wish to bring your own shotgun please contact us well in advance so that we can help you with the documentation and other arrangements. Alternatively, you can hire shotguns locally – again, to make sure your requirements are fully met, please contact us well in advance. You may bring your own 4×4 vehicle, hire self-drive or hire with driver. A number of estates include transport to the moors within the cost of the shoot. Dogs and beaters are provided by the estates.

DEER STALKING/HUNTING

If you wish to bring your own rifle please contact us well in advance so that we can help you with the documentation and other arrangements. Subject to various conditions, estate rifles may be used – please contact us for further information. Binoculars/telescopes are usually available for hire but, ideally, you should bring your own as you will be accustomed to their set-up. A stout stalking stick is essential for crossing rough terrain and steadying your binoculars/telescope. Estates provide quads, Argos, Highland Ponies, etc for taking your kill back to the Lodge.
